Yukon Income Tax: 2026 Overview
Yukon operates a five-bracket territorial income-tax system with rates of 6.4%, 9%, 10.9%, 12.8% and 15%. The structure closely mirrors the federal bracket schedule, both in terms of thresholds and the number of brackets, making Yukon's tax system one of the most "federally aligned" in Canada. The combined federal-territorial top marginal rate of 48% lands among the lowest in Canada, comparable to Alberta and lower than every Canadian province except for the Prairies. Residents of Whitehorse, Dawson City, Watson Lake and other Yukon communities benefit from a structurally moderate income-tax framework.
Uniquely among the territories, Yukon's basic personal amount (BPA) matches the federal BPA dollar-for-dollar, set at $16,452 for 2026. This federal alignment simplifies tax filing and means Yukon residents enjoy a higher provincial/territorial BPA than residents of Ontario, BC, Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick or PEI. Yukon participates in the federal carbon-pricing system and provides a quarterly Yukon Government Carbon Price Rebate to residents, designed to return roughly the same amount of carbon-tax revenue to households as is paid in at the pump and on heating fuel. Residents in eligible northern zones can claim the federal Northern Residents Deduction.

Yukon does not levy a territorial surtax, health-care premium or payroll tax. The basic personal amount matches the federal BPA at $16,452 for 2026 — Yukon is the only territory or province to fully align its BPA with the federal amount. The Yukon Carbon Price Rebate is delivered quarterly through the income-tax system to offset federal carbon-tax costs. Residents may also claim the federal Northern Residents Deduction (Zone A for most Yukon communities), reducing taxable income through a residency component and a travel deduction for qualifying employer-paid trips. Other Yukon credits include the Children's Fitness Tax Credit, Children's Arts Amount, and the Yukon First Nations Income Tax Agreement reductions for certain Indigenous residents.
