New Brunswick Income Tax: 2026 Overview

New Brunswick simplified its provincial income-tax structure in 2023, consolidating from five brackets down to four with rates of 9.4%, 14%, 16% and 19.5%. The reform also lowered the entry rate from 9.68% to 9.4% and merged the previous third bracket, making the system more competitive among Atlantic provinces. Residents of Fredericton, Moncton, Saint John and across the province now face a meaningfully lower middle-income tax burden compared with neighbouring Nova Scotia and PEI, although still higher than provinces west of Quebec.

The basic personal amount (BPA) for 2026 is $13,664, modestly above the Nova Scotia BPA but below Manitoba's, PEI's or Saskatchewan's. New Brunswick's top combined federal-provincial marginal rate of 52.5% applies to taxable income above approximately $193,861, making it less punitive on top earners than Nova Scotia (54.0%) or Newfoundland and Labrador (54.8%). The province does not levy a provincial surtax or health-care premium on individuals.

Refundable credits include the NB Child Tax Benefit, the Low-Income Tax Reduction, and the Harmonized Sales Tax (HST) Credit. The province offers a Seniors' Home Renovation Tax Credit and an enhanced credit for small-business investors in certain sectors.
