Frequently Asked Questions

How accurate is the US Navy method?
The US Navy formula is reasonably accurate for most people, typically within 1-3% of DEXA scan results. It is less accurate for very muscular or very lean individuals.
How do I measure correctly?
Waist: measure at the navel (belly button) level. Neck: measure just below the larynx (Adam's apple). Hip (women only): measure at the widest point. Use a flexible tape measure, keep it level, and do not compress the skin.
What body fat percentage is healthy?
For men: 10-20% is considered healthy (fitness range 14-17%). For women: 18-28% is considered healthy (fitness range 21-24%). Essential fat is 2-5% for men and 10-13% for women.
